The New River Resource Authority may accept non-friable asbestos containing materials (ACM) from residential projects. The regulatory requirements outlined in the Virginia Department of Labor and Industries, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and the State Building Code mandate that ACM generated by Commercial Operations and those of Property Owners be handled independent of one another. The information outlined below deals strictly with owners of single family residential structures performing their own renovation or demolition work and its transportation to the New River Solid Waste Management Area for disposal. The NRRA landfill is permitted to accept only non-friable/non regulated ACM of >1%. Identifying non-friable ACM as a homeowner is not an easy task and may require the assistance of a professional asbestos contractor to survey and test the material to determine if it is friable/non-friable/contains >1% of ACM.
